FRESCA's 1st year Anniversary @ The Gardens, Mid Valley

On the 10th of May, I got an invite to one of KL's hottest Mexican restaurant - Fresca's Mexican Kitchen and Bar's 1st Anniversary - as part of the bloggers from  Tastebuddies @ Nuffnang. :)
Authentic Mexican food is pretty hard to find in KL, and I'm delighted to have come across this colorful and brightly decorated restaurant in The Gardens.

In conjunction with their celebration, Fresca was decorated to give diners a Mexican fiesta feel, with traditional Mexican items such as serapes, sombreros, paper marche balls and flags all over the restaurants.

Over the year, Fresca has been a hit with the locals, the Latin Americans and wider expatriate community in KL who have been craving authentic Mexican fare.

After registering, we were offered these yummy Mexican drinks:
Refreshing lim juice (Forgotten the name :x) and Horchata (My fav! Cinnamon sweetened.)

Decor is very warm and inviting~

Array of ingredients used for the chef's demo later:-

Explaining the different elements in Mexican cooking

Mmm.. chilis and imported tomatoes, lime, peppers..etc

Just walking past that table alone you could immediately smell everything Mexican. Haha!

Ms.Lourdes Sosa Marquez introducing Mexico to the press.

Making traditional Guacamole.

Tip: Place Avocado in paper bag with a fruit (eg. Banana) to make it ripe faster! :)

Delicious array of Mexican food!

Totilla Chips with Guacamole

The chips were incredibly crunchy!
Love how this goes with the super creamy guacamole.
Ripe, fruity avocado. Mmmm :)

Sopa de Tortilla

A traditional Mexican broth, flavored with Guajillo Chile, garnished with fresh avacado, Ancho Chile, crumbly feta and golden tortilla strips.
Despite the soup looking heavy, it's surprisingly light! :)
The added avacados inside makes for an interesting creaminess.
Not very cloying as you would think. :)

Sopes de Frijol

Traditional Mexican snack made up of a small chewy corn flour base, topped with shredded chicken, refried beans, lettuce, feta, onion and served with Salsa Verdes.
It was hard to fit the whole thing into my mouth hahaha.
Flavor is very fresh! :) It's quite filling (to me, at least!) so I'm surprised it's considered a snack in Mexico.

Camarones al Ajillo

Tiger prawns with Guajillo chili and garlic.
The prawns were really plump and fresh and there were lots of chopped coriander in it.
Strong with garlic. Yummy!

Tacos Alambre

Corn tortilla with grilled beef and poblano chili
I really like the dip hehe. All corn tortillas are made using the traditional method of hand-pressing! :D
Apparently corn tortillas contain a lot of calcium, and is suitable for those on a gluten free diet.

This looked like a giant green gooseberry lol!
Apparently it's a Tomatillo, related to the gooseberries and a staple of Mexicans.
Tomatillos are the key ingredient to a lot of salsas and other Mexican recipes.

Congratulations to Fresca Mexican Kitchen and Bar for turning 1!
Surely I'll be back to try out more delicious authentic Mexican food. :)
